CVD Synthesis/Growth of Single- and Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes and Graphene

We use transition metal catalyzed CVD growth to generate vertically aligned carbon nanotube arrays (VANTAs) which can contain variable amounts of single-, double- and triple-walled carbon nanotubes depending on growth conditions. We are interested in infiltrating (i.e. filling) these VANTAs with pyrolithic carbon deposited at high temperatures using various gaseous carbon feeds. In the initial stages, this deposition is associated with tube-wall activation and growth of graphene-like regions.
